Wheat Beers
Krombacher Weizen Alkoholfrei
A relative newcomer to the wheat beer market, can Krombacher’s Weizen live up to the ages-old recipes of other German weissbier producers?
Whereas most beers are brewed using barley malt, wheat beer (also known as weissbier, from the German) utilizes, you guessed it, malted wheat in it's production. A traditional style in both Germany and Belgium, wheat beer still tends to use a majority of malted barley in it's production, though the addition of the wheat malt gives a sweeter taste to the end product. The higher levels of protein in wheat tend to impart the beer with a luscious foamy head, and also give a cloudy aspect to the liquid. Lighter than usual ales, though heavier than lagers, wheat beers make a great summer drink, and are sometimes served with a slice of citrus fruit.
