Welcome to Free Beer, a project of mine to attempt to highlight and review the many alcohol free beers pouring onto the UK and worldwide market. No longer the last resort of the designated driver or teetotaler, the new generation of non-alcoholic beers are actually drinks you'd want to drink in their own right.
AF (alcohol free) beer has seen something of a renaissance in recent years, with younger drinkers abstaining from alcoholic beverages or choosing not to drink as much as their parents did. They're also popular with people who are more mindful of their health and diet; non-alcoholic beers tend to have a much lower calorie content than their alcoholic brethren. The craft ale movement has also embraced AF beer, with luminaries such as BrewDog producing great non-alcoholic alternatives, and the big breweries also upping their game with some great tasting versions of favourite brews, sans alcohol. Alcohol free beer also appeals to the health-conscious, with lower calories offered by most AF beers when compared to their full strength versions.
From light summer lagers all the way to heavy winter stouts, I'll be covering the entire beer spectrum with as many offerings I can find, from the big brewing conglomerates to the local craft brewers, all with an ABV of 0.5% or less.
Cheers! 🍻
